Sourdough Sandwich Bread and Cinnamon Sourdough Bread
There’s nothing quite like the taste and texture of freshly baked sourdough sandwich bread. It’s perfect for everything from morning toast to your favorite sandwiches. Check out this video to see how it’s done:
In this next video I share more step by step instructions for making this type of sourdough bread.
The original recipe was shared by @lauralivesthegoodlife over at Instagram, but I’ve made some changes in my own version and share that here.
This recipe utilizes 1 cup of active sourdough starter, which we prepare overnight with a sourdough starter that I store in the fridge (originally gotten from a family member) add 100 grams of flour and 100 grams of water for that perfect bubbly texture.
Ingredients:
1 cup active sourdough starter
2.5 cups water
1 Tbsp honey (I added 1/4 cup in video and it did just fine)
1/4 cup oil
2.5 tsp salt
Optional: 1 egg
6-8 cups flour (possibly more)
Follow along as we mix all the ingredients to the right consistency – not too sticky and easy to handle. Once the dough is perfectly blended, we form it into two loaves. The first loaf goes into a greased bread pan, while the second loaf gets a special treatment with a delightful brown sugar and cinnamon swirl, adding that extra touch of flavor. After shaping the loaves, it’s time to let them rise for around 8 hours, or until they reach the desired bread shape. Once they’re ready, we’ll bake them at 375 degrees for 35 minutes, filling your kitchen with an irresistible aroma. Once the loaves are baked to a beautiful golden-brown, allow them to cool for an hour on a cooling rack or a cutting board before slicing. Enjoy your freshly baked sourdough sandwich bread as it is, or save some for later – it keeps wonderfully for about a week!
Tips for Success
Here are a few tips to help you succeed with your sourdough baking:
- Be Patient: Sourdough baking requires time and patience. Don’t rush the process; allow your dough to ferment and rise properly for the best results. I’ve been learning and experimenting with sourdough for over a year now. I’m still learning ways to use it and enjoy it!
- Maintain Your Starter: A healthy, active sourdough starter is key to great bread. Feed it regularly and store it properly.
- Experiment: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flavors and ingredients. Sourdough is incredibly versatile, and you can customize it to suit your taste.
I highly recommend getting a bosch mixer, it does wonders in mixing so many types of baked goods. I use mine every week and have had it for 15 years and it’s still working really well! Here is a link on where you could buy it on amazon if you’re looking into buying a bosch. I do make a lot of my baked recipes using this awesome machine.
